Tilt will soon see its decor updated

Liam O’Brien of Nottingham’s Brass Monkey has taken over another of the city’s longstanding bars, Tilt.

Named after the poker term, Tilt has been running in the city centre for 15 years. O’Brien started to consult for the business to transition it out of difficulties in 2023, before taking over the lease this year.

The cocktail bar, which is based across the first and second floor of its Pelham Street site, has reopened, with O’Brien planning to make gradual updates to the offering and decor.

“We’re going to be slowly improving the décor but keeping the core aesthetics – we’ve already put in new tables and chairs,” O’Brien told CLASS. “It’s got lots of exposed brick and is candle lit, and we play live blues, jazz and soul.”

O’Brien has repositioned the cocktails to focused on “classics with a few house creations and twists” and will be “leaning into a Southern American and creole” theme in its drink and food offering. The bar, O’Brien said, already has a large selection of American whiskey.
